Today’s Calendar

8:00 AM — Cathy Running FeedbackGPT Study

Context: Cathy Chase is running her FeedbackGPT study. No attendees listed — this may be a reminder/hold for you to be available if she needs technical support. Prep needed: None, just be reachable. Cathy’s LabGPT chatbot lives at labgpt.web.app (Firebase).

10:00 AM — Project Irvine

Context: Details confidential. Block is committed.

2:15 PM — Discussion about ISTE/ASCD (OTL) ← TODAY’S MAIN EVENT

With: David Mallin (OTL Sr. Licensing Manager), Isabelle Hau, Josh Weiss, Brooke Donald Zoom: https://stanford.zoom.us/j/93323868680?pwd=6qtWxk5lyGGh2FTxnphIsMfbvjbYbB.1 (Password: 597602) Context: First meeting with OTL to discuss IP licensing structure for the ISTE partnership. This is the formal step toward a revenue-sharing authorized provider model. Isabelle initiated the OTL conversation Mar 4; David Mallin requested this call + an invention docket filing. What to bring:

  • Invention docket draft (review projects/otl-invention-docket-draft.md — address Isabelle’s 2 comments first)
  • ISTE partnership summary: authorized provider model, rev-share on $7,500/day CLS, non-exclusive
  • Key framing: IP stays at Stanford, ISTE is licensed to deliver, “Powered by Stanford” branding
  • Josh’s position: direct TtT only for now, no second-hand training Questions for David Mallin:
  • Standard licensing structure for methodology + toolkit (not just software)?
  • How does OTL handle non-exclusive authorized provider agreements?
  • Invention disclosure process — what happens after we submit?
  • Timeline considerations — CLS faculty meeting at ISTE Live (fall 2026) Note: OTL web disclosure is in “pending” status — submit it before or bring it up in the meeting.

Email Action Items

Needs Response

  • Leon Furze (Mar 9, overnight): “Re: Lost you at the good part!” — Leon replied to Josh’s intro: “I would love to see more of what you are working on, particularly the Flashlab offerings and your current dissemination strategies.” Reply today with Flash Lab materials, dissemination context, and 2-3 specific feedback questions. Leon is an international AI-in-education thought leader — this is a warm connection via Josh. Time-sensitive while the thread is fresh.
  • Isabelle Hau (Mar 7, Google Doc comment): Two comments on the Invention Docket Google Doc: (1) “don’t build real skills” → suggests “don’t always…” (softer wording); (2) wonders if “Flash Lab” should have a better name “around community design.” Address before the 2:15 meeting.

Needs Action

  • Keith Bowen (Mar 8): Learning Design Challenge judging details. Q&A Session is Wednesday March 11, 5-7pm over Zoom — your group starts ~6pm, done by ~6:30pm. Prep 2-3 questions for 4 specific teams (Airtable links in email). Review entries before Wednesday.
  • OTL Web Disclosure (Mar 8): Invention docket is in “pending” at otldisclosure.stanford.edu. Submit it before or discuss in today’s meeting.
  • Jessica Garner (Mar 6): Will try to get preview access to ISTE online courses. For in-person PD, suggests attending an event. No action needed now — she’ll be in touch. Good news for due diligence.

FYI

  • Flint K-12 (Mar 9): March updates — video generation, voice customization, grade levels. Competitor awareness.
  • Hechinger Report (Mar 9): “A proposal to rebuild IES” — ed policy, potentially relevant.
  • Stanford Report (Mar 9): Screenome data and health — could connect to Marily’s work.

Today’s Priorities

Monday with the OTL meeting as the centerpiece. Morning is prep time.

  1. Address Isabelle’s comments on Invention Docket — Fix the two Google Doc comments before the 2:15 meeting. Review full docket draft for any other [REUBEN: ...] items.
  2. Reply to Leon Furze — While the thread is warm. Send Flash Lab overview, dissemination strategy summary, and 2-3 specific feedback questions. This directly supports Goal 3 (scaling).
  3. 2:15 PM: OTL/ISTE Meeting — Bring invention docket, partnership summary, and questions for David Mallin. Be ready to articulate the IP structure clearly.
  4. Submit OTL web disclosure — Either before the meeting or get clarification from David on what’s needed.
  5. Send goals write-up to Josh — Draft exists. Quick review and send so he has it before Thursday 1:1.

If Time Allows

  • Review Keith Bowen’s 4 Learning Design Challenge entries (prep 2-3 questions each for Wed)
  • Start LAUSD Foundation prep (Mar 19 meeting — next week is stacked)
  • Reply to Tamar Brand-Perez re: Gemini Gem
  • Send moderator bot info to Sarah (natural moment at Thursday VFT meeting)
