Daily Prep: Tuesday, May 19, 2026

Two real work blocks today: AS:DE 11am + the Piya Sorcar (TeachAids) call at 2:30pm. The 2pm HOLD is your last clear focus block before Thursday’s Josh 1:1 — protect it for GPS narrative drafting. Josh’s sacrificial GPS draft could land any moment; watch for it.

Open Threads from Yesterday

  • 🟡 GPS retrospective narrative — bullets + 24/25 callbacks + sentence starters all in prep/2026-05-18-gps-bullets.md. Drafting hasn’t started yet. Due ~Wed-Thu before Josh 1:1.
  • 🟡 Josh’s sacrificial first draft of the GPS narrative — promised “mid next week” on May 14. Today or tomorrow is when it should land.
  • 🔴 Strategic Huddle (May 12) running-notes STILL not filed. Only the scheduling reference is in meetings/running-notes.md. The actual huddle content (capacity calibration framework, vibe-coded MVP-as-a-service idea, Cyan stall, Joe OOO question, CRISPRkit handoff Q) hasn’t been written up after a week. Mention at AS:DE if Joe brings up evidence/case-study format.
  • Cyan DeVeaux intro chain — stalled per May 12 huddle. No new movement.
  • CRISPRkit handoff — open question for Cathy. Thursday’s Studio Services + CRISPRkit meeting (1pm) is the natural checkpoint.
  • Joe’s OOO dates — still unanswered. Worth asking directly at AS:DE today.
  • Cost sheet feedback — sent to Josh May 6, no response. Mention at AS:DE if there’s space.

Today’s Calendar

8:00–9:30 AM PT — Personal blocks (off-dashboard)

11:00–11:45 AM PT — AS:DE Meeting 🔴

With: Josh Weiss, Joe Sherman Zoom: stanford.zoom.us/j/92599859829 Things to surface (if space):

  • Joe’s OOO dates — direct ask, been open for a week.
  • Cost sheet — gentle check-in, no pressure (Josh saw it May 6).
  • Strategic Huddle May 12 filing — flag that it’s not yet done; commit to filing this week.
  • Cyan status — if anyone asks, the de-facto answer is “stalled by neglect, named at huddle, no new movement.”

2:00–3:00 PM PT — HOLD (Personal solo block)

Protect this. Best remaining window for GPS narrative drafting before Thursday’s 1:1. Aim: full first prose pass using the sentence starters in prep/2026-05-18-gps-bullets.md.

2:30–3:00 PM PT — Data to LMIC discussion 🔴

With: Piya Sorcar (piya@teachaids.org, TeachAids) Zoom: stanford.zoom.us/j/93612151746 (Reuben organizing) Context: Intro from Jessica Tsang. Email thread subject: “Do you have experience getting large training data to LMICs?” (Low/middle-income countries.) Tone is warm — she misspelled your name and apologized with a smile. This is a sharing-practical-knowledge call from someone who works on global health/ed at scale. No people profile yet — worth creating people/piya-sorcar.md after the call.

Note: This eats into the 2pm HOLD’s tail. Plan to wrap GPS drafting by 2:25 so you can context-switch.

Calendar Reconciliation

Yesterday’s look-ahead said today would have: AS:DE 11am ✅. Confirmed. 🆕 Data to LMIC discussion with Piya Sorcar 2:30pm — new since yesterday’s prep. Email thread shows it was scheduled May 15.

Email Action Items

Needs Response

  • Wen Ma — “Re: MyBook app invitation not working” (May 19 5:59 AM PT) — debugging request. Likely needs a quick reply with troubleshooting steps or a Loom walk-through. Check her last message for specifics.

FYI Only (skip)

  • Stanford Report — protein engineering newsletter
  • Qualtrics jobs digest

Inbox is quiet beyond Wen. Carryover items still owed if not handled (Nadia ISTE next-steps, Anthony Pollina, Loren Pamo ghost, Joe Sherman Airtable adds).

Slack Catch-Up

Skipped full scan this morning — Slack has been quiet through the weekend per yesterday’s run, no DMs or @mentions surfaced. If anything urgent landed overnight you’d have heard.

Reminders

From Claude-ToDo (new since last prep)

  • 🆕 “I need to look at Sofia vibe coding and what happened” — mobile capture. Belongs in action-items.md as a SofIA follow-up (SofIA = the canonical vibe-coded-MVP case per May 14 role doc). Will create a Fizzy card.

Old aspirational items (no due date) — still parked, still 5 items

  • googleworkspace/cli, personal-life assistant bot, SQLite musings, Amazon Business check, NASA X.com link.
  • These have sat since Mar/Apr. Worth a 10-min triage on personal laptop this weekend — delete or “someday”.

Personal (Claude list)

  • Chris @ Ascendant Aviation tax questions (carried Feb 13)
  • Echinacea
  • 3 article reads (personal-laptop)

From Inbox Processing

INBOX.md had stale content (~1 month old) that surfaced when stash conflicts resolved Monday. Routing:

  • LAUSD moving expo to fall → reference note in projects/partnerships-projects.md LAUSD section (already there per April end-of-month notes; this is duplicate).
  • VPGE comparable model (“take a professor’s content into a high production value plan”) → reference for future role-evolution / org-comparison work. Drop into goals/claude-assistant-ideas.md? Or just clear.
  • “Using technology with intention policy” → quote worth holding. Add to reference/quoted-impact.md? It’s an inbound idea, not a quote about the work — probably just a working concept.
  • “How to explain in 20 seconds?” → already worked through during ISTE 150-word + the May 14 role doc.
  • Gregory Flash Lab Apr 13 → past event, moot.
  • Seed grantee mailing list / affiliates → already created (Mar 19 1:1).
  • “Job: what is important to me?” → already folded into role-evolution thread (May 14 prep doc).

Recommended action: clear INBOX.md. Most of it is already actioned, duplicated, or obsolete. You said yesterday it was a month+ old — cleaning is the right move.

Cadence Checks

  • Timecard — Submitted May 15 ✅. Next deadline May 31.
  • End-of-month Airtable — Last week of May approaches. Plan to run /monthly-airtable Thu/Fri.
  • Strategic Horizon — Still overdue from April. Has been carryover for 3+ weeks. Either schedule a real block this week or formally defer to next cycle.
  • Travel — DCI June 5 — 2.5 weeks out. Check Egencia booking status if not done.
  • GSE postcard for Dan Schwartz — was due Mon May 18 (yesterday). If not submitted, deadline already passed but worth checking with Christina if walk-in postcards are still accepted at Raikes Dean’s Office.
  • Meeting prep needed (next 3 days):
    • Wed May 20, 10am — GSE All-Staff (Dan farewell). No prep needed beyond showing up.
    • Thu May 21, 10am — Josh 1:1. Centerpiece: GPS retrospective drafts (yours + Josh’s sacrificial). Heading format: ## Josh 1:1 (May 21, 2026)meetings/josh-1on1s.md.
    • Thu May 21, 1pm — Studio Services + CRISPRkit (Moraima organizing; Alex Choi, Cathy, Josh, Joe, Maren). Two open threads to land: (a) CRISPRkit handoff to Belinda — formal complete?, (b) cost sheet feedback if Josh hasn’t said anything by then.

Today’s Priorities (Top 5)

  1. 🔴 2pm HOLD — GPS narrative first prose pass. Use the sentence starters. Aim for a complete draft by 2:25 so you can context-switch to Piya.
  2. 🔴 2:30pm Piya Sorcar (TeachAids) — LMIC training data call. No deep prep needed; warm intro from Jessica. Listen for what she’s actually after, offer minimal scaffolding language.
  3. 🔴 AS:DE 11am — surface Joe’s OOO dates, Strategic Huddle filing commitment, light Cyan status.
  4. Reply to Wen re: MyBook app invitation.

Stretch:

  • File Strategic Huddle (May 12) running-notes if any time opens up (15-min job).
  • Clear INBOX.md.
  • Move “look at SofIA vibe coding” Claude-ToDo to action-items.md + create Fizzy card.

Full task queue: see action-items.md.
