AS:DE Meeting Prep — Tuesday March 10, 11am
With: Josh Weiss, Joe Sherman Zoom: https://stanford.zoom.us/j/92599859829
1. OTL/ISTE Meeting Debrief (Yesterday’s Big Thing)
The OTL meeting landed on a two-tier model:
- Open-source the workshop materials (designkit.stanford.edu) — creators can give it away per Stanford policy
- Proprietary train-the-trainer content — this is where the IP leverage lives
- Likely structured as a Work-Service Agreement (WSA), not a formal IP license
- YouCubed precedent — “Summer Camp inspired by YouCubed at Stanford.” Revenue from training, not curriculum.
- David Mallin’s key insight: “Where’s the true value — in the content or in the training?”
Action items from meeting:
- Reuben: Add copyright notice + Terms of Use to designkit.stanford.edu
- Brooke: Following up with Geoff Cox and YouCubed for precedent details
- Team: Develop proprietary train-the-trainer materials (separate from open-source workshop content)
Discussion points for Josh/Joe:
- Does the two-tier model feel right? Open-source workshops + proprietary TtT?
- How do we define what’s “proprietary” in the trainer content vs. what’s already visible?
- UBIC (Unrelated Business Income) tax issue — OTL wants it “completely removed from the university” if possible. What does that mean for us practically?
2. Ask Joe: Evidence Deliverable Format
- Carried forward from last week. What format does Joe use for documenting evidence/stories? Trying to match his hygiene.
3. Crystal AI + Equity Conference (Mar 21)
- Julia Rubin asking CSET team to help spread the word — they’re under-registered
- Sarah Levine already replied and is helping
- Decision needed: Do we want to share with our networks? Could be a [BRIDGE-BUILD] moment with Crystal Springs. BOGO or group discounts available.
4. Quick Updates to Share
- Leon Furze — Josh intro’d him. Leon wants to see Flash Lab + dissemination strategies. Plan to reply today. Any guardrails on what to share?
- Learning Design Challenge judging — Tomorrow (Wed) 5pm, Reuben’s group starts ~6pm. Need to prep questions for 4 teams.
- Google Certified Trainer — Reuben started the application (for due diligence on ISTE’s ecosystem)
5. Standing Items
- Josh traveling Mar 16-18 to U Mich Center of Academic Innovation — anything to prep before he goes?
- From last AS:DE (Mar 3): sal-seedgrantee list access, MyBook/HarmonAI documentation updates
- CRM survey questions — did Josh receive the draft for async review?
6. Parking Lot (If Time)
- Mar 19 is stacked (Josh 1:1, SofIA, CRAFT, LAUSD Foundation) — start coordinating prep
- Goals write-up — Reuben needs to send to Josh before Thursday 1:1
